As Lifestyle Options continues our policy and practice for all staff to only work for one Employer/Worksite due to COVID-19, we are currently recruiting for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to work at our various locations in Edmonton and Leduc, Alberta.  Posting will remain open until all vacancies are filled.

Must be available for weekend and evening shifts.

Position Summary:

The LPN is responsible for planning nursing care in an assigned area as required by individualized client needs and according to dependent and independent nursing functions while adhering to recognized nursing techniques, procedures, and established standards based on the scope of practical nursing, under the direction of the LPN Team Lead and the Director of Care.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Performing duties and services required by the Client Service Care Plan
  • Safe appropriate administration of medication as per current Standards
  • Supervising HCA staff to ensure safe appropriate implementation of client’s service plans
  • Updating services for Health Care clientele
  • Performing invasive procedures as per accepted CLPNA standards and company policies
  • Teaching delegated nursing tasks to staff as per accepted practice standards
  • Facilitating team communication to provide safe appropriate care services
  • Performing other delegated duties as required by Nursing Supervisor
  • Assisting nursing supervisor(s) with personnel matters (supervising corrective action, WCB)
  • Communicating with family, AHS, healthcare agencies, physicians and others regarding the needs and wellbeing of the residents
  • Utilize nursing knowledge and skills implementing basic preventative therapeutic and rehabilitative nursing care of assigned patient(s).
  • Perform delegated independent nursing functions using established procedures, policies, guidelines, and standards as observed by the registered nurse, supervisor or DOC.
  • Perform selected tasks related to patient care and the patient’s environment in a safe manner.
  • Collect data for patient records.
  • Contribute to the development of the patient plan of care based on the identified patient problems/needs.
  • Maintain and coordinate communication between patient, staff, and physician as evidenced within medical record, client, and health care team feedback.
  • Carry out physician orders accurately, directly and indirectly.
  • Assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of the nursing care administered relative to the patient/ significant other identified problem/needs.
  • Document pertinent observation and intervention on appropriate records.
  • Administer medication accurately, observing patient response, as evidenced by documentation in the medical record.
  • Verify the medications being administered.
  • Report patient needs/problems and observations regarding patient’s condition to the DOC.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and provide necessary information.
  • Attend required staff development programs per year and all scheduled mandatory training programs.
  • Assist patients and family members with concern and empathy and with respect to their confidentiality and privacy.
  • Take incoming calls and take ownership for helping the caller.
  • Assist in the training and orientation of new Team Members.
  • Follow proper reporting procedures for actual or potential accidents and/or incidents to ensure follow-up and prevention.
  • Record and report the need for maintenance or repair of equipment and remove any faulty equipment from use.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete assignments within established time frames.
  • Consistently demonstrate ability to take the initiative to make decisions/choices without direct supervision.
  • Participate in continuing education activities and obtain required contact hours.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures and ability to reference them from appropriate manuals.
  • Participate in team meetings, providing input and suggestions.
  • Follow OHS Regulations/ Report related concerns/ Assist with Hazard Assessments

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Have a “Clean Bill of Health” re COVID-19 criteria and exposure;
  • Not currently working at other employer/worksite;
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Valid license and registration with Licensing Body of Alberta (CLPNA)
  • Member in good standing of the recognized Licensing Body of Alberta (CLPNA)
  • Current Healthcare Provider training.
  • Current CPR and First AID Certification
  • Minimum 1 year in nursing in a seniors assisted living environment preferred.
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail required.
  • Delivers, practices, and role-models person-centered care and treats residents and families as equal partners in the planning of care and respects and upholds their opinions.
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence (use of perception and understanding of the resident and families ‘emotions as well as one’s emotions to manage situations towards the goal of effective resident care).
  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting patients.
  • Must demonstrate effective communication skills by conveying necessary information accurately, listening effectively and asking questions when clarification is needed.
  • Superior time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
  • High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion.
  • Must be able to be depended upon to plan and organize work effectively and ensure its completion.
  • Must be able to demonstrate reliability by arriving to work on time and taking breaks in expected time frames.
  • Able to meet all productivity requirements.
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
  • Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and are able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal English.
  • Provide a current and clear Criminal Record Check.

 Working Conditions:

  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting patients.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • On feet most of workday.
  • Exposed irregularly to infection when entering resident rooms.
  • Exposures to infectious diseases are possible.
  • Overtime as required.
